Year 5 Spring News

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back, I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas break and that the children are all rested and ready to come back to school.

Music

While in Year 5, the children will take part in Music Tech lessons in the Media suite and they will learn to play the Ukulele. Music will take part on a Monday and they will have these lessons for two out of the three terms in the year. Can all children please ensure that they have headphones in school.

PE

Every Monday the children will have PE, so please ensure they come in wearing their PE kits. Each class will have PE on another day and the class teacher will let you know when that is.

Reading

We encourage all children to read daily for at least 10 minutes. Each time your child reads can you please make sure that they write it in the Reading Record. The reading records will be checked on a Friday and need at least three adult signatures.

We have a range of books in the classroom and the Reading Dens for the children to choose an appropriate book. We also have the ‘100 books to read before you leave Crofton’.

Please remind the children to bring in their reading books and Reading Records daily. The book that they are reading at home should be the same book that they are reading in school

Work Share Wednesday

On the first Wednesday of every month, you can come into your child’s class and look through the learning that they have been doing. Please note - there is no WSW in February due to the face to face parent evenings w/c 10 February.

Homework

Homework will be set every Monday and will be on the website. Reading records will be looked at every Friday. We have reminded the children that they can write in their own reading records and an adult needs to sign the book each time they read. The children still have access to Doodle Maths and TTRS, which they can practice at home.

Dates for the Diary

Parents evening: 11th and 13th February 2025

Many thanks,

Mr Lloyd and the Year 5 team
